Rules

General Rules

• • Game-day Structure: 

Teams will play two games per hour time-slot. Each hour time-slot will run as follows: 

1. 3 minute warmup 

2. 24 minute game 

3. 3 minute intermission 

4. 1 minute warmup 

5. 24 minute game 

**There will be a buzzer every 1:30 to change lines** 

• • Team Composition: 

Each team will consist of 4-6 players and 1 goalie. 

• • Team Selection: 

Teams will be decided by the commissioners of the 3BHL to ensure fairness.

• • League Format: 

The first 6 weeks will be regular season and the last 2 weeks will be playoffs. Each team will play 12 regular season games and 5 playoff games. The final playoff day will have three games within the hour.

Gameplay Rules

• • All games and periods will kick off with a face-off.

  • Hand passes are strictly prohibited.

  • When a goalie covers the ball, their team has 5 seconds to play it. The opposing team must give space to the team with the ball for those 5 seconds. 

  • If the ball goes out of play, it will be restarted from the closest point to where it exited. The team who did not shoot the ball out of play will start with the ball. The team who did shoot the ball out cannot apply pressure for 5 seconds. Goals can be scored directly from a restart without the need for a pass.

  • There are no face-offs after a goal. The team that conceded the goal will get the ball and the scoring team must tag up at center ice before advancing again.

  • No Slap shots.

Penalties

• • There will be no slashing, cross-checking, high sticking, hooking, tripping, spearing, butt-ending, or any other improper use of the stick. Serious violations can lead to immediate ejection from the game.

  • Fighting is strictly forbidden and will result in automatic removal from the game and potentially the league.

  • Body contact, checking, pushing, shoving, rough play, verbal abuse, game delay tactics, or any unsportsmanlike behavior is not allowed. Serious violations can lead to immediate ejection from the game.

  • Any stick contact with the ball above the waist will result in a penalty. This penalty is not counted against a player's limit of three penalties per game.

  • Any player accumulating three penalties in one game will be ejected from the game.

  • For all outlined penalties, the opposing team will be awarded a penalty shot. The game will stop following the penalty shot, and the team who had the penalty shot against them will get the ball behind their net.

  • Intentional slap shots will lead to a penalty shot. Intentional slap shots will not count towards the three penalties per game rule.

Equipment requirements

• • Mandatory: 

A helmet with a cage or fishbowl attached to it, gloves (lacrosse gloves are allowed), and running shoes.

• • Recommended: 

Soccer Shin Pads

• • Goalies: 

Goalies should get dressed as they would for a normal ice-time besides their skates

• • **There will be limited amounts of goalie gear that can be rented for the hour. This gear is to be given back to the 3BHL after the session is over.**

Playoff Format

• Week 7 Game 1 (Placement Games): 

1 vs 2, 3 vs 4 

• Week 7 Game 2 (Semi-Finals): 

winner of 1 vs 2 vs loser of 3 vs 4, loser of 1 vs 2 vs winner of 3 vs 4

• Week 8: 

The winners of the semi-finals will play a best of three series for the championship. The losers of the semi-finals will also play a best of three series for third place. The hour time-slot for week 8 will run as follows: 

1. 3 minute warmup

2. 15 minute game 

3. 3 minute intermission 

4. 1 minute warmup 

5. 15 minute game 

6. 3 minute intermission 

7. 1 minute warmup 

8. 15 minute game
